What could be better than flowers and chocolates for your spouse on your wedding anniversary? That was the case for me last month. I had the most romantic Hershey’s kisses in my head for her, but it made me question if they were halal or not.

I was thrilled to learn that Hershey’s Kisses are halal certified, indicating that Muslims may consume them without any restrictions.

Actually, chocolates or candies can sometimes include gelatin or vanillin which might be from haram sources. This creates doubts in the minds of Muslims. As good Muslims, we always try to consume all halal products.

Vanillin is a suspect component because it contains alcohol, yet it is Halal if it doesn’t. The consumer division of Hershey’s has started informing customers that the supplier of their vanillin is now removing alcohol before delivering to Hershey’s, making Hershey’s kisses halal.
