Is Acting Haram?
There is a dispute between scholars. Some say that acting is totally prohibited and haram in Islam but others allow acting.
Furthermore, if the movie promotes Kufr (disbelief), gay rights, or other prohibited topics, then acting in it is haram.
We need to understand that commercial movies and TV acting that involves music, dance, nudity or any other form of the haram act is haram or prohibited by all scholars.

The type of performance considered halal is that which is done by two or more people in front of a group of others, using actions and conversation, to teach that group something about Islamic worship or principles.
Muslims should take care of the following things if they are into acting:
- Avoiding men assuming female roles and vice versa. Avoiding portraying unseen beings such as angels.
- Avoid playing the role of someone who mocks Allah, His signs, and His Messenger.
- Avoid playing any part that requires haram words, such as lying or backbiting.
- Avoid acting any acts of worship such as wudu or prayer in an incorrect manner.
Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
“Praise be to Allaah the Lord of the Worlds. There is no doubt that calling people to Allaah (da’wah) is an act of worship”

Quran says:
“Invite ˹all˺ to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and kind advice, and only debate with them in the best manner. Surely your Lord ˹alone˺ knows best who has strayed from His Way and who is ˹rightly˺ guided.”

Final Thoughts
Acting that is commercial and widespread these days is totally prohibited and haram. However, if the act is done for Islamic promotion or the act does not involve any haram act and does not involve dance, music, or nudity then it might be considered halal.
It’s highly suggested to avoid any acting as there is a thin line between a halal act and a haram one. It is important for a Muslim to make sure there is no haram activity involved and that it does not degrade Islamic rulings in any way.
And Allah Knows Best.
